Government of India launched it’s an ambitious program “Digital India” on 1st June, 15. The success of this program depends totally upon ubiquity of broadband services in India. The main constraints in ubiquity are, limited availability of spectrum, higher tariff of Internet usages, non-availability of last mile broadband connectivity, non-availability of electricity, non-availability of mobile networks, less awareness about e-Services and quality of services rendered. As on April 2015, the wired broadband density was only 1.24% and wireless Internet users are only 20 Crore. The objective of Digital India can only be fulfilled when last mile delivery of network is ensured. RailTel has come up with a broadband delivery model where by leveraging its existing OFC network of 48000kms and making synergy with the Local Cable operators/entrepreneur the challenge of last mile delivery can be solved and the services can be rendered to the end users. This model is based on revenue sharing arrangement can use the existing infrastructure of local cable operators or new access infrastructure created by local entrepreneurs. The technical complexity and compliances of delivering broadband services handled by RailTel. The highly scalable and efficient model of Railwire can ensure that even smaller players can offer competition and quality services as of any integrated telecom player in the country. RailTel hasselected & partnered with various Managed Service Partners in different zones for managing the entire operations. This model is designed in such a way which not only has impact on the society and RailTel but also help to bridge the gap of digital divide in India and achieve the Digital India initiative by Government of India.
