Introduction

In today’s digital world, accessibility isn’t just a “nice-to-have” – it’s a fundamental right.  Ensuring that technology is usable by everyone, regardless of their abilities, is not only  ethically sound but also unlocks immense potential for innovation and growth. At Infosys,  we firmly believe in building a more inclusive future, and our Infosys Accessibility Platform is  a testament to that commitment. This platform is driving next-gen inclusivity innovation by  empowering organizations to create accessible digital experiences for all.

Why Accessibility Matters More Than Ever

The digital landscape has become integral to nearly every aspect of modern life – from  education and employment to healthcare and social interaction. For individuals with  disabilities, inaccessible technology can create significant barriers to participation and  equal opportunity. By prioritizing accessibility, we not only break down these barriers but  also tap into a wider talent pool, enhance brand reputation, and drive innovation.

Introducing the Infosys Accessibility Platform: A Holistic Approach

Our US patented, Infosys Accessibility Platform is AI-powered, cloud ready,  futuristic inclusivity solution with enterprise deployment capabilities and built-in  intelligence. Accessibility by design features in the platform empower users for early  accessibility adoption right from design phase. The platform offers comprehensive web,  mobile, and PDF accessibility analysis, as well as precise recommendations for  remediation, thereby helping organizations save time, money, and effort.

Here’s how the platform is driving next-gen inclusivity innovation:

  • Automated accessibility audits
  • Gen AI and AI powered inclusivity features
  • Insightful reports targeting various user groups
  • Remediation recommendations
  • Multi-channel audit capability
  • Flexible rule engine with 60% coverage of global standards

Applicability of Infosys Accessibility Platform in GovTech

Government based digital applications are complex in nature and have huge and diverse  user base including disabled. In India, 2.21% of the total population has disability  challenges. The Income Tax Department (also referred to as IT Department or ITD) has  enabled digitization of direct tax collection for the Government of India. ITD Portal is one of  the largest citizen service portals globally, with 127 million registered users filing 85 million plus tax returns every year.

Inclusivity of the ITD portal is a key consideration for the IT department from usability and  legal compliance perspective. Manual testing for accessibility adherence proved difficult  considering the strict timelines and the volume of the screens (2000+) to be tested. The  platform capabilities enabled early detection of non-compliance with respect to  Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW) and helped developers to rectify issues  early even before the code got pushed to testing environments. 80 percent of the GIGW  guidelines are covered using the solution effectively which resulted in a 50 percentage of  effort reduction in GIGW testing with improved accuracy. Regression and retest effort was  reduced considerably by 65 percent with this automation. The recommendations and the  testing techniques populated in the defect reports help in fast analysis and fixing.

The Future of Inclusive Technology

At Infosys, we believe that accessibility is not a destination but a journey. We are  continuously investing in research and development to enhance our Accessibility Platform  and drive further innovation in the field of inclusive technology. We envision a future where  technology is truly accessible to everyone, empowering individuals with disabilities to fully  participate in the digital world. By partnering with us, organizations can unlock the full  potential of inclusive design and drive next-gen innovation that benefits everyone. Join us  on this journey towards a more accessible and equitable digital world.
