The InsuranceTech Innovation Award

Insurance innovation is measured where the promise is kept — at claim. This category covers underwriting, distribution, servicing and claims, including the risk modelling and data work that sits underneath them.

Before you enter

Three categories share the balance sheet. This is the one about the promise.

Most nominations that fail here fail because they were in the wrong category. Read across before you write anything.

Eligibility

Who should enter

  • Claims automation and settlement innovation with cycle-time evidence
  • Underwriting and pricing work using new data or new methods
  • Distribution innovation reaching customers who were previously uninsured
  • Health, motor, crop, cyber and parametric product design
  • Fraud detection and risk analytics with demonstrated recovery

What this award recognises is a promise kept at claim — a settlement that came faster, cover reaching people who had none, a price that reflected the real risk. Policies sold alone is not the case.

If the innovation is payments, lending or wealth, enter Innovation in FinTech. If it is healthcare delivery itself, read Innovation in Health and Life Sciences.

Assessment

What the jury looks for

  1. Problem definition & market opportunityWhether the innovation solves a real problem, backed by evidence and a measurable impact on its target audience.
  2. InnovativenessNovelty and uniqueness — new technology, functionality or business model — measured against what already exists, including IP.
  3. Market potential & impactSize and growth of the addressable market, competitive landscape, and scalability across geographies.
  4. Social impact & sustainabilityContribution to society and the environment, including social responsibility and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

These are the same four criteria — problem definition, innovativeness, market impact and social/sustainability impact — used to assess every category. In this category the jury also weighs the customer outcome at the moment of claim rather than the moment of sale, the actuarial and regulatory soundness of the approach, the reach in policies, lives or assets covered, and the evidence that the product performed as designed under stress. Questions

Yes. Both are explicitly in scope, including cover embedded inside a non-insurance product.

Can an intermediary or broker enter?

Yes, where the innovation is theirs and the underwriter’s involvement is disclosed.

What evidence matters most?

Claims-side behaviour — cycle time, settlement quality, grievance rates, performance under a stress event — with the comparison period stated.

How do I submit a nomination?

Nominations are submitted through the nomination process, which sets out the stages, the supporting material required and the current edition’s dates.
