Goa, 1st February 2019: Aegis Graham Bell Award announced Accenture and BleeTech as winners in “Application for Social Good” category for their innovative use of artificial intelligence in enabling the hearing-impaired to dance to the vibration of music through BleeWatch, an innovative technology solution developed for the hearing-impaired. The winners were felicitated at the 9th edition of Aegis Graham Bell Award hosted by Government of Goa at Entertainment Society of Goa, Goa.
Aegis Graham Bell Awards (AGBA) has been promoting innovations and entrepreneurship in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) domain. AGBA has been rewarding those who made outstanding contribution in these fields since 8 years with a vision to foster and stimulate innovators, for India to become a nucleus of innovations.
The BleeWatch created by BleeTech, provides haptic feedback of song beats to enable deaf people to dance. However, it was limited to only support music where the beat patterns were manually extracted and programmed by the BleeTech team. This limited the scope of available music and level of independence for the hearing-impaired users. BleeWatch also did not have a mechanism to synchronize multiple units if multiple people wanted to dance as a group.
Accenture Labs helped enhance the BleeWatch using haptics. The solution developed by Accenture Labs for BleeWatch uses artificial intelligence to dynamically extract beats from the songs, allowing hearing impaired users to be fully independent to choose any songs for feedback via BleeWatch. In addition, it also added a one-to-many connection feature, helping hearing-impaired dancers learn in groups and perform in perfect coordination with the rhythm and with each other.
