Mumbai 17, 2017: Data Science has become a buzzword these days as it is an emerging field. But still we have a shortage in the number of data scientists in India. There are many institutes coming up with courses in data science to improve on the number. Also, many industries are revolutionizing solutions and projects in the field of data science.

In the same manner, BRIDGEi2i Analytics Solutions has presented a unique innovation — Application of deep learning to an assortment of image-centered client problems — at the Aegis Graham Bell Awards Jury Round under the “Data Science” category. Deep learning methods were applied to a number of client problems, which included problems from robotic automated manufacturing, insurance claims verification, and analysis of marketing assets for CPG companies.

In robotic manufacturing, automated welding of metal plates is conducted. Deep learning algorithms were applied to detect and identify flaws in the welded metal plates by ‘looking’ at/analyzing the images of the welding. The algorithm was able to classify good and faulty images with very high accuracy. For the training, only a set of good and a set of faulty images were passed on to the algorithm, and the algorithm was able to train itself only by analyzing those sets of images.

The same algorithm was used to assist a property and casualty insurer in assessing and underwriting insurance claims involving rooftop damages. The videos and images of the insured’s rooftops taken by drones were analyzed by this algorithm to look out for hail damages or other kinds of damages. The algorithm was then used to automatically detect damages caused by hails or other agents and make the process of underwriting claims faster and more accurate.

The same technology was also used to isolate different components used in digital marketing assets (images and video) of a CPG giant and identify which components and characteristics of a digital asset are able to garner better response from the target audience.
